Yes, working can effect you receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, but only within earn a certain amount. Payments will stop if you are engaged in what Social Security calls “substantial gainful activity.” SGA, as it’s known, is defined in 2022 as earning more than $1,350 a month (or $2,260 if you are blind).

Special rules make it possible for people with disabilities receiving Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to work and still receive monthly payments and Medicare or Medicaid. Social Security calls these rules "work incentives." Below are the rules that apply under each program.

What happens when a beneficiary turns 18 yrs old?
The Age-18 Redetermination is especially important to youth with disabilities and their families.
SSA reviews the status of all Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients on a regular basis. This process is referred to as a redetermination. This process happens about every three years. The age-18 redetermination is when SSA starts using adult criteria to decide if the beneficiary still has a disability. SSA's adult criteria is very different from the standards for child disability benefits. The adult criteria looks into the person's ability to earn money, instead of the beneficiary's ability to complete tasks of daily living.
If SSA determines the person does not have a disability at the age-18 redetermination, the beneficiary may still qualify for benefits by taking part in an educational or vocational program.
